Patrick Roy : Champion Goalie

Average review score:

Greatest goalieThis is a great book for young Hockey fans. It doesn't just focus on winning but on everything, the Ups and downs of playing the position of goalie. The book is filled with great pictures of Patrick in action. It is also easy enough to read for the younger fans.

Patterns of Redemption in Virgil's Georgics
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (August, 1999)

SuperbDr. Llewelyn Morgan has really done a splendid job. I cannot think of a more illuminating or learned text on the Georgics. Morgan's style, wit, and command of detail never fail to impress. A first class effort!

Pioneer Ghost
Published in Paperback by TriQuest Publishing (01 June, 2000)
Average review score:

Pioneer Ghost is a delightful story for ChildrenThis book really is touching and it was something our whole family was able to enjoy reading it together and to the kids. The story was very interesting and it seemed to be historically correct with regards to the western area it covered in the story. I would highly recommend it to parents for their children and those interested in the geneology theme.

Pontiff
Published in Paperback by New American Library (June, 1984)
Average review score:

Extremely compellingThis work by two investigative reporters is extremely interesting and well-written. How accurate it is I do not know, but I know thatI found it to be extremely absorbing reading. E.g.: The authors say that Cardinal Benelli had 70 votes and if he had gotten 75 he would have elected Pope. Since Benelli died Oct. 25, 1982, if he had been elected the whole history of this latter part of the 20th century would have been different!

The Postmodern Explained: Correspondence 1982-1985
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Minnesota Pr (Txt) (January, 1993)
Average review score:

Perceiving the ModernAs a hard-core modernist, I've been puzzled by this whole postmodern phenomena, which, to me, seemed impenetrable, so the title of this book caught my eye. Further, Lyotard has been called the theoretician of the postmodern, hence this book seemed like a good place to start trying to understand the postmodern. The book contains an afterward by Wlad Godzich that I found to be extremely helpful (read it first). I cannot claim to understand the postmodern, even after reading this book, but I have some insight into how it can make us more aware of the modern, which is characterized by a belief in universals and the project of improvement and emancipation of all humanity from bondage. Legitimacy for the actions toward that end was believed to stem from the Idea of this ultimate condition. However, 20th Century history has cast doubt on both the theoretical underpinnings (legitimacy) and practice of progress (how could the modern project have led to Auschwitz?). It is this doubt that created a postmodern awareness. 'Post' not in the sense of following, but in the sense of complexity subsuming and overwhelming the naive (unexamined) nature of this long standing project of progress.

Precolumbian Architecture in Eastern North America (Ripley P. Bullen Series)
Published in Paperback by University Press of Florida (T) (April, 1999)
Average review score:

Earth Mounds ExposedFew people are aware of the earthmound remains of Precolumbian peoples in the US. William Morgan's little book does much to change that, and in a highly readable manner. Organized by epochs, this comprehensive illustrated catalogue of over 100 important sites is a must for early-history buffs. Most important, each site is "reconstructed" and illustrated with a clear to-scale map which is at the same scale as all the other mapped reconstructions. The book is a model for such studies, as sites of interest can be quickly compared in scale with the Acropolis, the Giza pyramid complex, and other more famous sites. Highly recommended.

The Prince's Tale and Other Uncollected Writings (Abinger Edition of E.M. Forster, Vol 17)
Published in Hardcover by Andre Deutsch Ltd (February, 1998)
Average review score:

Nice miscellany of Forster articlesIf you enjoyed Two Cheers for Democracy and Abinger Harvest, this is the book for you. This book contains more articles by E.M. Forster, varying from literary criticism and biographies to a description of looking to the house of Voltaire through a fence while on holiday. (And yes, the latter is a beautiful read too.) Interesting from a scholarly point of view, but certainly also for anyone with a wide range of interest: an entertaining, sometimes even moving book.

Great guide but must have a newer editionI love the book! It's very useful and perfect for my situation as a non-experienced PR student. It would be better though if the author published another edition ready because I'd buy it for sure!
I love her, and can't wait for the next book to come out!
